Self-guided walking tour

The Southern Wine Street as a part of the German Wine Route offers excellent hiking possibilities. Hike along the huge vineyards cultivated in a pleasant climate and dating back to the Romans. Cross the Forest of Pfalz on exceptionally beautiful paths and discover tranquil places and stunning views on the Rhine-plains. The walk follows wine and hiking paths for 61 kilometres going easy up and down all day enabling you to walk stages of up to 6 hours.

Your itinerary:

Day 1 - Neustadt a.d. Weinstraße:

You arrive at Neustadt, the largest wine-grower town of Germany with a historic centre. The tour starts with an informative evening at your hotel between 5 and 7 pm.

Day 2 - Neustadt to St. Martin:

You start in midst of vineyards and walk to castle Hambach. Enjoy walking in Forest of Pfalz, visit stunning scenic view points. In the evening you stay at the border between forest and wine in the charming town of St. Martin.

Day 3 - St. Martin to Landau:

The Pfalz has a lot of local colour and histories, e.g. true leather-socks lived in Edenkoben. Second remarkable point of today is Landau with its charming centre and ancient fortress. You stay overnight in Landau.

Day 4 - Landau to Bad Bergzabern:

Enjoy this marvellous hike of vineyards as well as a visit to an ancient monastery in Klingenmünster and the ruins of fortress Landeck. Visit the thermal spa and historic Old Town of Bad Bergzabern. We strongly recommend dining at the local inn 'Gasthof Engel' before retiring to your hotel.

Day 5 - Bad Bergzabern:

The little health resort has a number of recreational facilities to enjoy or visit the surrounding wine-grower towns before departing. Please note: Upon request return transfer to the starting hotel is available.
