Something Different: the Sausage Museum

Berlin has spent an incredible €5m on a museum dedicated to a skinless pork sausage, the Currywurst. To Berliners, this humble snack is as important as the hotdog is to Americans. Invented in Berlin after the War, and patented in 1959, it’s sold at fast-food stands (imbiss), smothered with curry-laced ketchup, sprinkled with curry powder and paprika, and served with a bread roll (Brötchen or Semmel) or chips. Before pouring over the Currywurst, the ketchup may be warmed. The museum, all 165,000 square feet of it, features a restaurant, shop and exhibitions. www.currywurstmuseum.de
