German Beer
German beer is highly diverse and an important part of Germany's culture. In their per capita consumption of beer the Germans lie only behind the Czechs and the Irish. There are well over 5000 different sorts of beer and they vary according to the different regions. German beer has a good reputation for its quality as every single one has to be brewed after the Bavarian "Reinheitsgebot" (purity requirement) dating back to 1516. According to this only the ingredients of water, hops and barley-malt and yeast and nothing else are allowed for the brewing process.. Many breweries worldwide adopted the "Reinheitsgebot" for their own beers.
