The opening parade takes place on Saturday 20th September when the breweries, with their horse-drawn carriages and various folk groups in traditional costumes, parade through the streets of Munich to finish at the ‘Theresienwiese', and Oktoberfest is underway "Ozapft is" - "It's tapped" until the last Maß (1L beer mug), Munich becomes the centre of fun for the world.
This makes the Oktoberfest a great family occasion and it's a common sight to see all the family together enjoying the carnival atmosphere.
The Oktoberfest boasts visitors from all nationals all enjoying the Number One beer festival in the world. All activities take place in vast marquees hosted by the various Munich breweries and seating several thousand revellers apiece.
The beer, the food and the music all combine to create an atmosphere which is unequalled. Enjoy the colour and excitement of the giant fun fair surrounding the tents, which combines all the traditional attractions such as big dippers, merry-go-rounds and big wheels, with the very latest hightech white knuckle rides.
