Festival of ‘Cakes and Wells’ takes place in Schwäbisch Hall (always at Whitsun). This festival celebrates the Saltsimmerers since the fourteenth century. The origin of the festival dates back to the times when salt gave wealth to the city in the middle ages. The magistrate acknowledged the hard work of the Saltsimmerers by declaring a celebration in their honor. With more than 500 actors and backers, the "Kuchen- und Brunnenfest" is one of the most beautiful city celebrations. It features an array of medieval traditions and music.
