Bad Dürkheim Wurstmarkt
The Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt (literally translated as Sausage Market) is not a Sausage Market at all; it is the world’s largest wine festival!
During September, this cosy and otherwise quiet resort and wellness town erupts into a plethora of vintners’ tents and festival halls selling wine to suit all tastes with every brand of German wine available.
The ‘Bad Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt' is the world´s greatest wine festival as well as being one of the oldest, with the first record of the festival dating back to 1155. You can enjoy over 150 different wines in over 50 different places - from the mellow Riesling to the finest ice-wine.
Although this is a wine festival, there is certainly no shortage of other attractions and the entertainment is one of the distinctive features of the festival. With amusement rides, roller coasters and machines that swing you around at dizzying speeds to accompany the fair, children and families are well catered for. Of course there are rides for those who prefer a more relaxed momentum accommodating the younger children and those faint at heart. The Wurstmarkt is entertainment and wine in one - fun for the whole family.
