Braunschweig Christmas Market
A Christmas atmosphere around the Lion of the castle
The emblem of the city, the Braunschweig Lion of the Castle, is the centre of activity at the market held around the cathedral and castle.
Every year on the Wednesday before the first Sunday in Advent, the market is declared open in a ceremony performed by the Lord Mayor. Well over 100 stallholders from throughout Germany display their wares at the Christmas market: wooden toys, Christmas tree decorations and candles, traditional items from the Erzgebirge made of wood and glass, ceramics, tropical and dried fruit, baked apples and a whole lot more.
The town centre with its pedestrian zone will dazzle visitors with its bright lights in the run-up to Christmas.
