Stop by in Bingen
Check out the 13th Century Mouse Tower (Mäuseturm) in Bingen, supposedly the place where the imprisoned Bishop Hatto of Mainz was eaten alive by mice after he had burned alive starving peasants who came begging for grain.
Hildegard von Bingen, composer, dramatist, feminist, writer, preacher and New Age philosopher, was born in Bermersheim in 1098 and lived in Bingen for most of her life. The recently opened Historical Museum on the River (Historisches Museum am Strom), in a former power station, chronicles her extraordinary life.
