Miltenberg
Miltenberg Am Main – Half-Timbered Houses, Culture And A Real Zest For Life
Located directly on the Main River between the Spessart and Odenwald regions, Miltenberg fascinates visitors with its medieval half-timbered houses and its wonderfully romantic atmosphere. The town is surrounded by vineyards, hiking and cycling trails and located only 75 km from Frankfurt.
Its eventful history, thanks to its strategic position on the old trade route between Nuremberg and Frankfurt allowed the city to experience prosperous times quite early in its history. This was followed by periods of changing fortunes, but the original medieval structure and architecture of the town has been preserved to the present day. Many magnificent old half-timbered buildings still bear witness to the earlier importance of Miltenberg. Among the most famous buildings are the houses on the Alter Marktplatz (Old Market Square), which is also known as the Schnatterloch (Chatter Hole). The inn "Zum Riesen" in Miltenberg is the oldest inn in Germany.
