Famous Facts
The headquarters of the famous ceramics company of Villeroy & Boch are in a former Benedictine Abbey in Mettlach. The Völklinger Hütte, a redundant ironworks, was the first industrial works to be included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Industry has also risen from the ashes of the war and Saarland is now one of the country's prominent commercial zones. This state takes its name from the River Saar, a tributary of the Mosel. The Saar Canal between Dillingen and Konz on the Mosel makes it a major waterway for large vessels. ...
