Journeys Through the Land of Christmas
Traditional Christmas decorations were invented in Saxony and Thuringia and have ever since spread throughout the world.
For centuries, Christmas articles like pyramids, Christmas arches and nutcrackers have lovingly been made by hand in the Ore Mountains, while Christmas tree decorations made of colored glass were invented in the South of the Thuringian Forest 400 years ago.
Visitors to Lauscha during Advent can glass-blow their own tree decorations.
The Dresden Stollen is the most famous Christmas cake in Germany.
All of this and much more is a good reason to take a long trip to the land that is the epitome of Christmas, to live it up at some of the most picturesque Christmas markets and perhaps to buy a Christmas decoration or two.
But the pre-Christmas period is also a good opportunity for a romantic sleigh journey through the snow or a musical tour of towns like Halle and Bad Lauchstädt.
