Kaiserslautern is a modern city with a lively student scene and attractive shops. One of the most famous attractions is the imperial palace built between 1151 and 1158.

The Bierkrug (beer mug) Museum has more than 500 exhibits from the last two centuries and illustrates the diversity of German beer culture.

It's a good base for walking holidays in the Pfalz region.
