Frankfurt an der Oder (pop 68,000) although pretty much destroyed during World War II, has a long history and gives easy access to Poland. The Marienkirche – Germany’s biggest Gothic church – was reduced to a roofless ruin, but the roof has recently been renovated and it is used for temporary exhibitions.
