
The Schlossplatz (Stuttgart)
The Schlossplatz is bounded by some of the city’s great civic buildings. In the centre of the huge square is the König Wilhelm Jubilee Column erected in 1841 and surrounded by eight fountains.
Behind the Schlossplatz lies the Schlossgarten, a wonderful park of fountains, footpaths and landscaped gardens. Check out the beer garden here.
The New Castle at Schlossplatz is the former residence of the kings of Württemberg was built between 1746 and 1806. In addition to its state rooms, the New Castle also houses two of the Baden-Württemberg regional government's ministries.
The 135 m façade is lined with shops, and its columns attract buskers and street entertainers in the summer.
