Behind thick walls

The stone houses, whose walls are up to two and a half metres thick ,date from the 13th century. These monuments with their first floor entrances and small windows were used to guard people and their wares. There are around hundred of these unique, permanently inhabited warehouses in the historic Old Town. The oldest one is from the 13th century and is situated in the Bierstraße.
