Heilbronn is a busy town with a superb setting all fringed by vineyards and therefore even at first glance it lives up to its reputation as the largest German wine-growing community. The symbolic figure of the town is ‘Käthchen von Heilbronn’ who served Kleist as a model for his drama of the same title.
Heilbronn's town hall, with its ornate astronomical clock, is an example of Gothic architecture dating back to 1417. It was extended in the Renaissance style at the end of the 16th century.
