Surroundings
The landscape in the Heilbronn area varies greatly. Wide river valleys and basins are flanked by narrow, steep climbs. The vineyard slopes give way to leafy woodland at the top of the Keuper Mountains, an irresistible attraction to hill-walkers. Large parts of the Heilbronn district lie in two of the area's designated nature parks, Stromberg-Heuchelberg and the Swabian-Franconian Forest. In addition to places of natural beauty, you also come across places of historic and architectural importance at every turn. Most important of all is the Knights' Church of St. Peter in Bad Wimpfen im Tal, which is one of the most important works of German High Gothic architecture. There are many treasures to be discovered in atmospheric towns such as the half-timbered town of Eppingen in Gundelsheim, famed for its Teutonic Knights, Weinsberg with the ruins of the Weibertreu Castle and Jagsthausen with the Castle of Götzen.
