The University City of Freiburg is the cultural hub of south-west Germany. And as Freiburg is such a sun-trap, some of the cultural events take place outdoors.

It has an extremely wide range of music on offer. Concerts are given in the Concert Hall and historic Kaufhaus, in the Minster, the College of Music and the City Hall, at the SWR radio station and in Ebnet castle. Freiburg's Jazz House also makes it a key venue for jazz music.

There's also a great deal of drama being performed on the four stages of the Municipal Theatre and in several privately owned theatres, as well as in the cabaret and comedy venues.

Freiburg's museums house major art, archaeology, history, natural history and local history collections.

And its wide range of wine cellars, gourmet bars, pubs and beer gardens deserves a chapter to itself.
