Berlin Alexanderplatz
Alexanderplatz or “Alex” has a long history, although there are hardly any traces left of it. After being the site of a cattle and wool market, the square became one of the cities busiest spots in the early 19th century. Alfred Döblin captured this frenzied atmosphere in his novel “Berlin Alexanderplatz”. In World War II most of the buildings surrounding the square were destroyed. Nowadays you’ll find meaningless edifices from the 1960s, the only signs of its historical past.
