The Aachen Cathedral is one of the most famous examples of occidental architecture.

It was the coronation church of more than 30 German kings, the burial site of Charlemagne, a major pilgrimage church and the cathedral church of the Aachen diocese since 1930. It was the first German building since 1978 to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
