Augsburg and Jacob Fugger The Rich
The Fuggerei (1516), built by Jacob Fugger the Rich, banker to kings and emperors, is the world's oldest social settlement for the poor. Even today its residents pay the miniscule rent of only €1 per year. It is open to visitors.
There are excursions to the land of the Fuggers with the Wellenburg, Kirchheim, Babenhausen and Kirchhaslach castles, where the descendants of Jacob Fugger the Rich still live today.
