Marienburg Castle near Hanover

The impressive Marienburg Castle towers over the South Western slope of the Marienberg, some 15 km north west of Hildesheim and approx. 20 km south of Hanover. The castle, with its distinctive turrets, dominates the rolling hills beside the Leine River.

The former summer residence of the Guelphs a birthday present from the Hanoverian King Georg V to his wife, Queen Marie, is one of the most important neo-Gothic buildings in Germany. The stunning facades, turrets and the multitude of different roof shapes casts a spell on any visitor, making them apart of the fairytale life in this castle.

For some time, the Hanoverian Guelphs also ruled the British part of the Guelph realm, all the way from London. The history of the House of the Guelphs and of the Kingdom of Hanover is documented in the historical rooms of Marienburg Castle, which can be visited in a one-hour guided tour.

This tour allows the visitor to view the state and private rooms of the royal family. The eloborate interior design with its historical furniture, paintings and rare objects of arts, allows us to see experience life at court during the end of the 19th century.

The Schloss Restaurant, situated in the former stables, invites visitors to relax in historical ambience.
