Bückeburg Castle in Lower Saxony
To this day, Bückeburg Castle is still the residence of the Dukes of Schaumburg-Lippe and a jewel of the Renaissance. Those taking a guided tour will be particularly impressed by the golden room with its famous Götterpforte - a work of art of extraordinary quality, which was created in an opulent late renaissance style.
Neither should visitors miss the great banqueting hall. It was built from 1893 - 1897 in a rococo style as part of a new wing and is still used by the ducal family on festive occasions. The chapel with its intricate gilded carvings is also well worth seeing. The castle is surrounded by well-kept gardens in English style.
At the edge of the gardens there is a mausoleum: Inside this burial place for the ducal house of Schaumburg-Lippe there is a gold mosaic dome - at 25 metres it is the largest in Europe. Also belonging to the complex is the only working baroque royal court riding school in Germany. Shows include the High School of Equestrianism as well as Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque passages at arms on horseback.
