The Town Hall of Augsburg
The monumental Town Hall, is an imposing Renaissance master piece and the restored Golden Hall is famous for its magnificent, pompous portals, coffered ceiling and mural painting. The Town Hall, is said, to be the most significant secular Renaissance Building north of the Alps.
The Fuggerei (1516), built by Jacob Fugger the Rich, banker to kings and emperors, is the world's oldest social settlement for the poor. Even today it's residents pay the peppercorn rent of only € 1 per year and it is open to visitors. There are excursions to the land of the Fuggers with the castles of Wellenburg, Kirchheim, Babenhausen and Kirchhaslach, where the descendants of Jacob Fugger the Rich still live today.
