Roman Architecture in Trier
The face of Trier was shaped by the Roman era. The most famous relic is the Porta Nigra (Black Gate) from the 2nd century. The Imperial Baths was a bathing palace of the first half of the 4th century and even then ranked as one of the largest thermal spas in the Roman Empire.
The Amphitheatre, a Roman arena for fights of gladiators and animals was built around 100 A.D. and had a seating capacity for around 20,000 people.
UNESCO has declared the Barbara Baths, Forum Baths, Roman Throne Room (Basilica) and the St. Peter’s Cathedral as treasures of world civilization.
