Harz National Park

The nature reserve of the Harz National Park is made up of large parts of the western Harz Mountains. 95 % of the 158 sq. km. area is covered with forest which makes it ideal for seeing rare animals such as the dipper, the black stork, the peregrine falcon or even the lynx when hiking.

The Brocken Mountain, the highest peak in the park which rises to 1142 meters has an alpine climate and once the summit has been reached, one can marvel at the high mountain flora at the Brocken Garden which began in 1890 as an experimental garden. Take care though as night falls as witches are believed to gather at the Witches'Altar on the summit to celebrate Walpurgis Night.
